School Self Evaluation

In Scoil Naomh Bríd, we are committed to improving the quality of teaching and learning in our school. We use the School Self Evaluation (S.S.E.) process to help us.

What is S.S.E.?

School self-evaluation (S.S.E.) is a collaborative, internal review process where a school's community—including principals, teachers, parents, and students—reflects on its own practices. The primary goal is to gather evidence to continuously improve teaching, learning, and overall student wellbeing.

How does it work?

Schools typically utilize a structured, 6-step cycle to keep the evaluation focused and actionable:

  • Identify Focus: Select specific curricular areas or school priorities to investigate.
  • Gather Evidence: Collect feedback and data from teachers, students, and parents.
  • Analyse: Make evidence-based judgements on current strengths and areas for growth.
  • Report & Plan: Outline specific targets and steps for improvement in a formal document.
  • Put into Action: Implement the strategies outlined in the improvement plan.
  • Monitor: Evaluate the impact of these changes to ensure they are benefiting students.

Why is S.S.E. important?

Using this process helps us to:

  1. Focus on the needs of our pupils.
  2. Use evidence to help us to make decisions.
  3. Set realistic improvement goals.
  4. Encourage collaboration.
  5. Communicate our plans with parents and the wider school community.

How are Parents and Pupils involved?

We survey parents and pupils and consult them through the Parents' Association and Student Council throughout the year to gain feedback that aids us in understanding their perspective of our school.
